Are you are Exploring the Masai Mara for the first time? Remember to go through your packing list for below items.

Binoculars

This is one item I have never invested in, exploring the Mara made me think twice. Can you imagine how it feels like when the animal you want to see is right before your eyes only separated by distance? You get it, you have invested your time and money for that, and you deserve the best. Invest in one of these or borrow from a friend, only if they do not need it of course.

A lack of one of these may separate you from heaven in the Mara

Wet Wipes

They come in handy all the time, when its dusty, when it is sweaty, when you need to take a snack or for a short call, you never know when you may need it.

Swimming Costume/Gear

Am guilty of forgetting this one when I am in a hurry to pack, and then you see the swimming pool or the water and you want to dive in. You may be lucky to be in a hotel where they stock some for sale but you can never be too sure

Sunscreen, Sunhat, Sunglasses

Whichever you choose or you can have all. You want to come back home relaxed, not with a tone of sunburns and a stressed mind on how to heal them. Those beautiful eyes need to be protected too, we still have a lot of places to explore and we need them in good health.

Power Bank, Memory Card

Did I tell you, that the temptation to shoot videos is inevitable when you see moving animals? One pose is different from the next and magical than the previous one. A photo can never capture all, keep that power on going and your storage enough.

Lots of Drinking Water

Oh yes, keep that body hydrated, you will get drinking water at the hotel but the free one may be limited and the prices may be a little higher than outside of Mara.

A Reading Book ,Laptop, or Notebook

If your stay is short you may not need to, however for a stay of two to three days, you may consider to carry either or both. Game drives are limited to the morning hours and in the evening, you can not swim or talk to your friends the entire day. You have got to entertain your self somehow. And for the bloggers, this is the perfect time to update your travel blog. For those of us who love travelling light, a notebook for those special moments you do not want to forget are kept secure here.

Outdoor Shoes

Very important when visiting those Masai villages, exploring the Mara river and other interesting sites along the way. Make sure they are comfortable to walk in and offer you protection where needed.

Dust Mask

If you are exploring the Mara during the dry season, it will be advisable to have a dust mask if dust makes you uncomfortable. Some parts of the road to the Mara from Narok is not tarmac and can be dusty.

Indoor Games

Indoor games comes in handy for the non reading type, this can be useful during the day as well as in the travel truck to kill time. Besides, it is an easy way to make friends. Just walk up to someone and ask if they can play game of cards, and voila, you have a playmate or someone to chat with.

Camera.

This is a must have, needless to say. You either have a good camera, a good camera phone or a good photographer. The choice is yours, capture those moments, relish them, share them and let the pics tell the story where words can not.

Enough Change of Clothes

The Mantra is, always carry one extra set of clothes for what you think you may need. Ladies if you are staying for long, do not forget a dinner dress, you never know who may invite you for dinner. A shower cape is a must carry, not all hotel provide them. Sandals that may double to be used in the shower are always recommendable.

Warm Over-cloth.

Not too warm, morning and evenings can be a bit cold depending on the season. You are out to enjoy yourself and not freeze to death or catch a cold.

Toiletries

Carry if your are particular about your toiletries. Always confirm from the hotel if they provide some and what is it includes, the definition of toiletries is relative and means different things to different people.

Have you been to the Masai Mara before? What do you wish you should have carried?
